Unpacking Standards
Task 1: View the video on unpacking the standards.
Standards are intended to guide education, setting benchmarks for what students should know and be able to do. However, standards can be too numerous, overly broad, excessively detailed, or ambiguously worded. This can overwhelm educators, hinder effective teaching, and limit student learning. To address this issue, it’s essential to unpack the standards systematically, breaking them down into manageable components and clarifying their intent. By doing so, educators can better understand the expectations, tailor instruction to meet diverse student needs, and ensure meaningful learning experiences.
As you view this Unpacking the Standards video, please consider:
1. standards challenges you have experienced as a teacher and/or learner
2. what is important to consider when unpacking standards systematically
3. how you might approach unpacking standards with students
